NOTE:  All fields on the builder form are shown in the screen images below - fields on actual form may be hidden depending on settings in other fields

Header Tab Overview

Summary: The Header section is located at the top of the web page and it spans across the entire width of the page (above the Header Links Bar, Navigation Sidebar, The Page Body and the Information Sidebar), and can be used in a variety of ways.  This section can contain a Page Title, Subtitle, a Logo, a Banner Image that displays across the top of the page, up to two Scrolling Messages, and a number of custom links.  The Header section can be formatted to have a different background color or image than the rest of the page if desired, and it can be switched off completely so that it does not appear on the web page at all if desired.  The image below illustrates the various components included in the Header Section of an RWD form as seen on the web page.
Note:  In this version of RWD Help, ONLY the Title and Subtitle Options (Text Only), and the Scrolling Message feature are discussed.  All other features of RWD require and Advanced Builder form to use.

Generally, the Header section is where you would put your organization's logo and also the Titles for the page itself.  Titles in this section can be created by entering text in the appropriate field.

Title and Subtitle - Content and Formatting  - SubTab A

Summary: The Title and Subtitle - Content and formatting SubTab (A) is used to create and set the format for your page Title and Subtitle (usually, the Title should match the page subject that was set in the Page Tab of the RWD form). If you wish, you may substitute a graphical image instead of text. To do so, check the Use Image checkbox and enter a valid path and file name to the image you wish to use.  If you created an images folder in your site as suggested, you must first upload the image you wish to use to this folder and then set the path and graphical file name in the Path/Filename field.

1) Title

Function: This will be the title of the page which will be displayed in the Header section (not to be confused with the Page Name and / or the Subject).

2) SubTitle

Function: This will be the subtitle of the page which will be displayed in the Header section (not to be confused with the Page Name and / or the Subject).  The Subtitle appears below the page title.  If you do not wish to use a subtitle, leave this field blank.

Scrolling Message - SubTab B

Summary: The scrolling message feature allows you to put text into your header that constantly scrolls along the leftmost third of your web page, at the bottom of the Header section.  You can turn the scrolling on or off entirely, include up to two different messages - each with a unique link, determine how links open up and format the font used.

Note - font and font formatting fields present in version 1 form have been removed in version 2 as they serve no function in the basic builder form.

1) Include Scrolling Message(s) in Header Section

Function: This will determine whether or not the header will actually include the scrolling messages. Tip: You can also use this field to gain a little bit of space on your header bar even if you don't want a scrolling message - simply use a font color that is the same as your Header section background color, select the font size that is as tall as the amount of space you wish to gain, and type a single letter in the first message field.  This will create an invisible "message" but it will look in your browser like you have additional space in your Header section.

2) Open Links In

Function: This determines whether the link will open in a new window in the browser or the the same window.  Generally, if you are linking to a site outside your own, use a new window.  If linking to a page inside your site, use the same window.

3) Message

Function: This is the content text of the message.  You can have up to two distinct messages in RWD, each with separate links but both will adopt the same formatting and link opening behavior.

4) Message Link

Function: This is the URL of the destination page or page location that the browser will jump to when the scrolling message is clicked by the web user.  As always, it can be a local link to a marker in the existing page, another page in your site, or another site on the internet (in which case you should use the full internet syntax:  http://www.sitename.com/pagename)

5) ToolTips

Function: ToolTips are pop-up messages that will display when a user hovers their mouse over the message.  If no ToolTip text is entered, RWD will pop-up the message that is entered in the message field.  A ToolTip allows you to have a more descriptive message than is practical with a scrolling message and can contain instructions for the user or extra information related to the scrolling message.

Tips & Tricks: The scrolling message is an effective method for displaying urgent messages (such as emergency bulletins) due to their movement on a mainly static page. Also, the moving text is a good eye catcher for interesting information in a site.

RWD allows users to embed a graphical image into the scrolling announcement by using a special syntax [img=imagepath/filename] right in the body of the message.  For example, if you wanted to display a SMALL picture of a tire that was animated, rolling along as the message scrolls (tire_anim.gif) in your message, you would upload the image to your local site (to a folder called 'pictures' for instance) and the syntax in your Information Sidebar would be as follows:  [img=pictures/tire_anim.gif]
You can have text on either side of this special tag if you wish.
